A wide, three-panel panoramic painting rendered entirely in monochromatic sepia, tan, and golden hues, titled "Sweet 'Enuf'." The scene is a surreal interior perspective from the back seat of a highly detailed, retro 1970s automobile. In the center panel, a man wearing a cowboy hat and glasses steers the car with his left hand while looking back over his seat past a young boy sitting close to him on the backseat. On the left side of the vehicle, and the far left panel, a long-haired Spaniel dog sits calmly in the corner left of the back seat. Outside the windows, surreal roadside signs zoom past, including billboards for "Weatherby's," "Joke House Novelty," and a "Shanghai" Chinese-American restaurant under a bright yellow sky.

Organized by Executive Director Zully Adler, Further Afield is a series of four exhibitions that bring attention to Northern California’s history of underground, offbeat, and vernacular art making. Each exhibition focuses on an artist or body of work with strong ties to the Bay Area, held at a venue connected to, or resonant with, the objects on view. Further Afield foregrounds figures and practices that have long existed on the periphery of official art history, and reinforces the ethos of independent creativity that underpins Further’s coalition of partner exhibitions.
