Works In Progress: Commons brings together a group of artists, architects, designers, and furniture makers to explore shared life and public space as practices deeply rooted in the Bay Area’s history. Working alongside and responding to one another over the course of a year, participants develop furniture and spatial elements that support everyday actions such as gathering, waiting, reading, resting, and informal exchange. These works are inspired by the Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Marin County Civic Center, with each contribution developed through collective decision-making and negotiation. In conversation with Wright’s vision for public space, the project unfolds through a collaborative process based on shared authorship and use, and reflects on how design supports connection, presence, and daily interaction.
Works In Progress: Commons is curated by artist Kate Greenberg and Kelley Perumbeti of Office of Tangible Space in partnership with the Marin Cultural Association and the County of Marin, Department of Cultural Services.

Works In Progress
Works In Progress is an exhibition series with a mission to amplify, archive and create dialogue around the Bay Area craft & design community. Each iteration explores a combination of furniture, objects, and space, with a view into the processes and people behind them.
Marin County Civic Center
The Marin County Civic Center, commissioned in 1957, was Frank Lloyd Wright’s last and largest public project. The Marin Cultural Association hosts rotating art exhibits on the 1st floor and 3rd floor of the building.
