Radius at Minnesota Street Project, ARROZidency (Filipino American), and Makaan Arts (Central and West Asia and North Africa) present Living Room, a group exhibition bringing together artists from both residency programs based at The Studios at Minnesota Street Project. Co-curated by ARROZidency and Makaan Arts residency founders, the exhibition reframes concepts of home and belonging through diasporic ways of seeing.
Across photography, installation, sculpture, and video, the artists reimagine salo-salo salas (Tagalog) and makaan (Arabic)—concepts meaning “spaces of gathering”—as the physical and emotional homes we construct for ourselves and our loved ones. Ancestral moons shine through Bay Area windows, illuminating how artists map their intergenerational journeys through stories.
Rituals, performances, and feasts animate works by Makaan Arts artists Ava Koohbor, Ebti, Bessma Khalaf, Tuğçe Evirgen Özmen, Helia Pouyanfar, Narges Poursadeqi, and Shirin Towfiq, alongside ARROZidency artists Cristine Blanco, champoy, England Hidalgo, Allison Hueman, Angeline Marie Michael Meitzler, and Gericault De La Rose.
Hospitality anchors the ARROZidency and Makaan Arts residency programs. Both artist-hosted programs were founded to offer space for creative placemaking: grassroots structures for sustaining art, community, and belonging in a region where migration continually redefines place.
Living Room is curated by France Viana, ARROZidency, and Taraneh Hemami, Makaan Arts.
